About Us

Founded by husband and wife creative duo, Davide Piai & Kimberly Poppe, Amitābha Studio is the home for one-of-a-kind handcrafted designer lamps upcycled from antique and vintage Delft ceramic vases. From finding unique Delftware pieces, to choosing the right fabrics to give them a contemporary twist, to handcrafting them into functional lamps with the finest materials—we do it all! We see our lamps as not just light fixtures, but as functional pieces of art that will bring light into your space and into your life.

Davide is a craftsman who has always had a passion for creating beautiful things be it art, music, and even food! (He’s Italian after all.) Kimberly is an artist and interior designer who studied at Parson’s School of Design in NYC. Together, they share a love for art, design, and bringing beauty into everyday life.

During one dark, dreary Dutch winter’s night, they were chatting with a good friend about how important lighting is for keeping one’s spirits up. Upon taking a look at their own home, they realized they needed more light! After an extensive search, the pair struggled to find any lamps they loved, so they decided to take matters into their own hands. Inspired by the unique history and art of Dutch Delftware from their adopted home, the Netherlands, they found a beautiful antique Delft vase and paired it with a bright red lampshade and cord to create a lamp that felt both contemporary yet classic. This creation process sparked a re-discovered love of handcrafting. As the duo also have a background in art history and delight in discovering the stories behind things, continuing to work with antique and vintage Delft pieces felt completely natural. The rest is history as they say!

At the end of the day, our mission is to bring light (both literally and figuratively) to your home. We believe that happiness is made up of many small things and even the tiniest addition or change to your space can shift your mood. There is nothing like the spark of joy we can get from the simple beauty and care expressed by an object that is handcrafted with love, from the original Delft master painters down to us today. That is what we aim to create with each and every one of our pieces—from our studio to your home.
